About Us
Flour, Water and Friendship
The Bread Club was set up in 2025 to bring people together to learn and share bread-making skills in relaxed, friendly and affordable sessions.
It's first project, which took place at Sunfields Methodist Church in Charlton, saw a range of bakers from South East London teaching breads from around the world while explaining the origins of the bread and their own baking journey. Sociable sessions for adults gave everyone a chance to make their own bread from scratch and meet other locals. When it was ready we sat down to eat together, and there was plenty left for people to take home at the end.
The Bread Club is also running breadmaking and cooking sessions for young people at The Valley Youth Club, in partnership with Charlton Athletic's Community Trust. Take a look at the pictures below to get a sense of how they are going!
We’re keen to build a Bread Club network, so please sign up (click here) to our mailing list or get in touch to tell us how you'd like to get involved. We've been applying for funding to run more sessions for adults - fingers crossed we will have some good news on that soon.
